Fall Break

Fall Break for us is not complete without a trip to the orchard/pumpkin patch. This year, we were invited to go with friends to Appleworks with friends. Our friends live nearby and we planned for an extended playtime and lunch at their house afterward.

A bit of an adventure unfolded as we encountered a road closed on a way there. Being as I have a good sense of direction, we opted to find the way ourselves rather than turn around to head to our friend's house. It was a beautiful, sunny, fall day. We had a packed lunch and nearly full tank of gas -- what could go wrong?? Thankfully, I also had my cell phone (and it was turned on!!) as well. We finally twisted and turned, after going up and down hills, and came upon a little store.

As I opened the door, I felt as if I stepped back in time about 25 years! There was a sweet, little old lady behind the counter. A large TV was on one of the booth tables. I noticed candy bars behind the counter, but wasn't really tempted to buy one as I had no idea how long they may have been there... It made me feel slightly reminiscent of the little ma and pa type store near to where I grew up in Ohio. After asking the lady if I was close to Appleworks, she told me I was about a quarter mile away! I was rather pleased with myself!!

After arriving, we had to get a picture of each kiddo with their face in the apple:
Caroline
Jonathan
Elizabeth
Matthew
The kiddos love the play area at Appleworks. They have a large barn with rope swings and a tile slide. I didn't get a picture of it, but they have a sign posted warning adults NOT to use the slide...I think it's a health hazard!
On the weekends, they also have pony rides, trike rides, train rides and lots of other activities...all for a fee, of course! There is also a petting farm area that the kiddos really enjoyed this year!
Elizabeth feeding the baby goat while Jonthan pets him.
Matthew and his new friend!
The little two really loved the turkey. They would giggle every time he would gobble!!
Matthew and his pal, Nate.
Miss E. hanging out on the haystack, while Jonathan plans his attack behind her.

Our little pumpkin!
Best buds!
I loved this picture of the little ones crossing the bridge. The bigger kids had taken off!
Elizabeth and her friend, Mandy.
Even though it's many years away, I don't look forward to the day when my baby boy heads off on the real school bus!!
We headed inside their store and got Cherry Apple slushies before heading to our friend's house. It was a crazy place since it was fall break. A man told us they make 900 apple dumplings for the weekends and normally sell out! I'm glad we didn't go on the weekend...
We continued the Fall Break fun with a trip to the ZooBoo. The kiddos were excited to don their costumes, see the animals and get some candy!
Our princesses in the straw bale maze.
IronMan is hard to see driving his siblings on the super fast race car.
The world's cutest Little Bear race car driver!
Our crew!
We really enjoyed having Daddy home with us during Fall Break. It was nice to have a break from our normal routine and be able to spend some extra time together! We also went to see Toy Story 3 in the theater!! It was the first time our little two had been to the theater -- sheltered lives, I know!! When you are a family of 6, it's ridiculously expensive to go to the theater -- even the cheap one. We all loved the movie!
The other big event of Fall Break was moving the kiddos rooms around. We no longer have cribs at the Cribbs' house!! It was bittersweet as we are no longer in the "baby" stage. Both of the younger kiddos have transitioned well to their big kid beds! It is neat to see the new relationships budding between the boys and the girls. Jonathan was so sad, at first! He's an emotional little boy to begin with, but he cried and cried because he was going to miss her! He really loved sharing a room with Caroline. When we told him he'd now get to teach Matthew all of the neat things that Caroline had taught him while they'd talk before going to sleep, he warmed up to the idea a little bit more. Elizabeth really misses Matthew and loves to help me when it's time for his nap. She loves to sing to him and give him hugs and kisses (and lots of them!!)
