St. Patrick's Day

The day arrived with a forecast of sunny skies, green grass is poking out of the ground along with lots of our daffodils and tulips and the anticipation of our second annual trip to the St. Patrick's Day parade downtown. Due to Jonathan being in afternoon Kindergarten, I knew we'd have to leave before it was over, so we headed down early to scope out a spot. We got there about an hour before the parade began and we had many spots to choose from. Unfortunately, I didn't think ahead to bring blankets to spread out to help me save extra room for our friends. We had some time to run a little in the park behind us. Here are my two little leprechauns...
Jonathan was jumping around and being silly popping out from behind the trees.

This is probably one of my favorite parts of the St. Patrick's Day parade. I love bagpipes and when the guys twirl their drumsticks, I think it's pretty cool!
This is another favorite part of the parade. This groups performs with their old school strap-style lawnchairs. They fold them, sit in them, read the paper, make an arch, twirl them over their heads, etc. The back of their shirts said something like, "Having fun being silly since 1993." If I didn't know better, this seems right up my husband's alley... This year, they also had "flags" or girls twirling umbrellas! Funny!!
Our kiddos have really become parade junkies. We took our fabric grocery sacks for collecting our loot. They had wide openings and were green -- perfect!
One of the funniest moments of the adventure was when "Uncle Bert" (family of the people next to us) came by. Brooke, Elizabeth's friend held open her bag to him and with slurred speech he said, "Las, all I've got is Scotch and I'm afraid you can't have any of that!" Mind you, this was at 11am. We got a good chuckle out of "Uncle Bert" not recognizing his nephews, either!
Mr. Matthew with his beads and goodie bag. I think he only got 5-6 pieces of candy, but we combined it all when we got home. It was a sizeable amount between the 3 kiddos!
Caroline was festive for school with her shamrock leggings and hairbows. It was such a beautiful day -- 70 degrees in March is a rare occurrance! We took a walk to the creek after dinner and homework. We met a neighbor who was celebrating her 80th birthday. I would have never guessed she was 80!! Their names are Ken and Barbie, which the kids thought was funny.
Jonathan came home with this! He truly was a lepruchaun!! He has made so many fun hats this year. Stay tuned for an end of the year summary of all the fun hats he's made this year!
