We have become parade junkies over the years. This Labor Day was no different -- except for the extreme heat we experienced which was freakishly unusual for Indiana in September. It was 99 degrees!! We should have known that the heat would keep many people away, but we still arrived early to stake out our great seats. The kiddos had just received some new magazines in the mail before we left that came in handy while we waited...
This year's parade had a special fly-over by the Indiana Search and Rescue Helicopter. As we sit near to the announcer's stand to hear what each entry is, we also get first class treatment to special acts. The helicopter was getting near to us and I was thinking it was awfully low as you could see the wires on the telephone poles swaying significantly. I was thinking of how in the movies, you see the ground below getting quite a bit of wind from the spinning blades. In a matter of seconds, the helicopter came in and before we knew it, tents were blowing away, chairs and umbrellas tumbling down the street....it was crazy!!! Thankfully, all of our kiddos remained calm and they all weighed enough to not get blown down the street!!! I would love to see some of the video footage of what happened...
Jonathan and Matthew thought these cars were pretty cool.
Grammy found these binoculars and brought them along for the kiddos enjoyment. Jonathan had a ball checking out the upcoming entries down the street.
Whew -- we were sweltering in the heat and can't imagine how hot these folks were that were in the parade! Thankfully, we sit right in front of a McDonalds.... Elizabeth was so excited to see the horses that were all decorated so beautifully!
