National Skate Day

I learned of a new holiday this year. January 10th is National Skate Day. We have an ice rink around the corner from our house and they had a free day. So, of course, we went!

Realizing that I hadn't been ice skating in probably 10 years, I figured that this would be an event that I could only manage with one child. I planned a special date with Caroline! Caroline was a bit nervous at first.
It was pretty busy with lots of skaters. We saw several people we knew and became friends with the wall! Our first lap around the rink was pretty slow with Caroline holding onto the wall with one hand and nearly cutting off the circulation in my hand with her other hand. She was doing really well and we started on our second lap. By the time we were half way around, I asked if she wanted to come off the wall. She did and really did a good job. She did loose her balance and spent quite a bit of time on the ice.
Thankfully, she didn't pull me down with her, but I had a sore back today from bending over to pick her up! I'm used to picking up 8 week old Matthew -- not 5 year old Caroline! It was lots of fun and we hope to do it again sometime!
