Happy Spring!

Spring has sprung! We've had some beautiful weather here as of late and we have been loving it!! Today marks the first day of spring. We spent alot of time outside today... playing, working and having fun!
A big dent has been made in the gumballs that have fallen. They are making their way from the ground to becoming mulch around our trees. The daylilies and hostas are starting to peek through the ground. We even had daffodils bloom today!Elizabeth felt she was big stuff on her 4-wheeler. She's been asking all week to get it out!
We are now the proud owners of a riding lawnmower! As it was parked, Matthew decided to climb on it and test it out...yes, I took the keys out!!
We've been trying for several years to get one from Ebay. After receiving our tax refund this year, we raised our limit and were able to find one on Craig's List. The older couple we bought it from were so sweet and they even delivered it to us! David had fun today toodling around, testing it out and taking the kids for rides.
On their 4-wheelers....

To celebrate, we had a rainbow cake. I have to confess, this is not an original idea from yours truly. I got the idea off of a friend's blog (Thanks, Amy!) last year. She did it for Easter, but I thought it would be fun to celebrate the first day of spring... especially since we had an especially long winter due to fridgid weather and the never-ending cold that was shared among our kiddos.
I ended up getting the neon food coloring. Boy, they are not kidding when they say "NEON". It did make for a very pretty cake. David thought it would end up a vile green color, but was impressed.
Caroline helped me decorate it once it was frosted with colored sugars.

We also had rainbow sherbet to go along with it. I don't know that we'd ever had sherbet before, but it was a big hit. Elizabeth kept asking for more "coldy". I told David tonight that it's rather surprizing that I'm not 400 lbs. considering all the sugary sweets I consume. I always seem to have some freebie or rare holiday to celebrate that involves a sweet concoction. Unfortunately, I'm passing that gene along to my kiddos...
