Soccer

We finished up the fall soccer season today. It was a busy season filled with some great weather and lots of fun! This year, we had 3 players on 3 teams, BUT their games were all at the same time on Saturdays! It was a blessing in disguise as we didn't have to spend the entire morning there for 6 weeks, rather, we just didn't ever get to sit and watch one game!
Matthew has been a trooper this year! He is at the age when he is just not quite old enough to participate in everything else his siblings can. Let's see, this summer there was VBS (times 2), swim lessons and now soccer! He has really become a good cheerleader. Considering he thinks he is 6 years old like his brother most of the time, he enjoyed yelling for the other kids quite a bit!
Elizabeth was on the Dark Green Machine team. Being as it was her first year, she did rather well.
Caroline was on the Red Knights. She's not the most aggressive player, but she enjoys it.Jonathan was on the Yellow Jaguars. He has really improved his skills this year! He is a quick fellow and enjoying scurring about on the field.Caroline usually played mid-field. She didn't have a whole lot of contact with the ball, but learned about the various positions.
Jonathan was a good defender. He also got to try being Goalie several times, which he was pretty excited about. We really had some unseasonably warm weather, which made the games much more enjoyable for all! There was just one game that was chilly. We did have a bout of sickness that caused Jonathan and Elizabeth to miss some games.Jonathan did so much better this year at paying attention to what was going on in the game....
whereas for Elizabeth...well, she and her friend, Faye, were a little chatty. Shortly after I took this picture, the ball rolled right to where the girls were standing. Elizabeth did manage to take a break from her conversation to kick the ball!
They had an award ceremony the night before the last game to give all the children their trophies. Elizabeth was so excited to receive her first trophy! She really wanted one like the big kids had from their season last year -- and that is what she got! She cradled it and was impressed at how shiny it was! For some reason, the picture will not upload the right way, I've tried to save it, re-save it, upload it, and re-upload it so many times.... you'll just have to look sideways. Sorry!
The Jaguars -- the soccer ball on their trophy spun around and was rather facinating! The Knights!
The final huddle! It was fun talking with each of them today about their favorite parts. We are thankful we survived -- it was busy to have two practices during the week and the games on Saturday! We've always said only one activity at a time for the kids so we are not overcommitted -- I guess even one activity for 3 kids can still be taxing to our family schedule!
