Staycation

Recently, I'd read that Webster was adding the word "staycation" to the next edition in the dictionary. I was pleased to read that as someone near and dear to me (ahem, my husband!) likes to make fun of me when I make up words. Anyhow, we participated in a staycation this week. The weather was rather unusual for the end of July which put a damper on some of our outdoor activities, but we were able to spend lots of quality time together. We ate out (one of my favorite parts!), went places and had fun (another favorite part!!) together.

A new place we took the kids to was Johnny Rockets. For those unfamiliar, envision Steak n' Shake except, the workers DANCE! Our waitress was great and upon request, they performed for us.

We took a trip to the Children's Museum.

They've got a King Tut exhibit which is drawing big crowds from all around. We also visited on a rainy day, so it was pretty busy. We opted to try out some of the shows and were pleased with those.

Elizabeth put on a dinosaur show for me.

Finally, the weather cooperated and we had the little ones spend the afternoon at David's parents while we took the older two go-karting.

It's one of their favorite activities! We enjoyed having some one-on-one time with them. Sadly, they are both getting so big that before we know it, they will be driving their own go-karts! After our last ride, Jonathan told David, "You are AMAZING! You're the BEST go-kart driver EVER!"

We also tried out the bumper boats with the condition that we would not spray each other...

I had to laugh when I saw they had sprayers positioned outside the pool -- made me think of my oldest brother paying people to spray his sisters with similar sprayers at a ride at Dollywood. Thankfully, he was not with us today, so we stayed dry. There were a few young boys who dared to spray David and he showed them to not mess with the big guys!

We capped off our week by having a fire and making s'mores.

We've done s'mores before in the microwave but they are sooo much better over an open fire. It was a delightful evening and week with our 4 kiddos. The older two kids started to catch on to their Daddy's teasing by the end of the week. We had lots of fun together!
