Butterflies at White River Gardens

As a part of our zoo membership, we also get to visit the White River Gardens. Every year, they have a butterfly exhibit that is pretty neat. When we arrived, they were releasing new butterflies into the exhibit. Some still had wet wings and didn't fly to far. One landed on our stroller and I was able to have it walk onto my fingers! The kiddos loved getting a close up look at the beautiful butterflies!
Matthew wasn't too sure about the winged wonders. I was a bit afraid of him crushing the fragile butterflies, so I was thankful he was timid.
Caroline loved to hold the butterflies! Jonathan was indifferent -- he was content just to look at them up close while someone else held them. This particular one was drinking (or trying to find) sugary sweetness on Caroline's hand.
This is the box where all the chrysalis hang. When butterflies are ready, they release them from inside here.
Our stairsteps! There was a pond with goldfish they were all checking out.
Elizabeth was "feaked" (freaked) out by the butterflies! She was nearly screaming in tears when this one landed on her head. I told her to hold still and snapped a picture. When I showed it to her, she said, "oh, wow!"
We found this butterfly that had died. Jonathan wanted to keep it as a souvenier, but due to parasites, we were not allowed to take it from the premises. He was pleased as punch to have his picture taken with it!
We took a quick tour of the outdoor gardens and found another prime picture spot. This garden area would be beautiful for an intimate outdoor wedding.
This was another fun spot for the kiddos to splash in the frog fountains! It was nice that each kiddos got it's own frog. The water helped to cool them off, too!
Just being silly!
Caroline found this bird that was laying in the bushes. We thought it may have been hurt, but it did fly off. Guess it was just playing with us!
