Two wheels!!

The summer is winding down and it's the last week before school starts. David has the week off with us, so we've got some fun activities planned for the kiddos.

Today started off with a breakfast date for Jonathan with me. We went to Chick-fil-a (free hash browns - YUM!) and some great time talking about kindergarten. I'm awfully sad to see him heading off to school. Jonathan is such a sweet boy -- I'm really going to miss him in the afternoons!

Then, we loaded up the bikes and headed over to the school parking lot. We've worked a couple of times with Caroline, but having a gravel driveway has it's disadvantages :( We knew she could do it with just a little bit more space and concentrated effort. I also knew it was one of those activites that I couldn't do without David's help....besides, you always see the Daddy running along with the kid when they are learning to ride a bike!

Jonathan loves 'Checkered Flag' and Elizabeth is rather fond of 'Pegasus'. Yes, they named their bikes. Our little tricycle is name 'Rosie'. It's pretty cute, I think! The middle two have gotten pretty good on their bikes with the training wheels. Several times this summer, they've spent hours riding in circles in the garage. They were loving all the extra space of riding at the school.
Mr. Matthew could not be left out. He had 'Excelsior' to scoot around on.
This was the perfect place to teach a new two-wheeled rider. It was partly shady, and a long, straight stretch!
It really only took about 15 minutes of David helping Caroline before she was confident to take off on her own.
The key was getting her center of gravity stable and making sure she pedaled fast enough!
She's got it!!! David was having to go at a slow jog to keep up with her!
Then, he was at a full run!! We are so proud of her!!
The other three kiddos tired of riding and found the playground activities more appealing. Matthew was filthy dirty! I was thankful we'd put on a "nice" outfit!! It's one that he decided to spray cleaner with bleach on while we were cleaning!
Caroline took a "play" break on the tire swing after her hard work!
School playgrounds don't have baby swings, but we did come equipped with a Daddy-swing!
We believe in safety first! Elizabeth loves her bike helmet and will usually cry when it's time to take it off! I'm glad she likes it. We don't have to struggle with any of the kiddos wearing their safety gear!
After we were done riding, we went into the school. Caroline got to see her teacher from last year and her new room for second grade. She is excited and will be just a couple rooms down the hall from Jonathan's Kindergarten room.
We celebrated her accomplishment by getting cold drinks at the gas station -- frozen cokes were good on a hot day! I also dusted off my bike and took the older three for a ride down our street to the creek. It was a bit challenging and I was thankful that we live on a dead end street. There were a few cars, but we managed. At dinner, Elizabeth was telling Daddy how we 'took a brake at the creep.'
After dinner, I took Caroline alone to the creek. She did much better with only a few stops. A very big day in the life of the Cribbs!!!
