Matthew is 2!!

Our baby is 2!!! The last two years seem like a blur in my mind. I'm thankful that I've been fairly consistent about blogging or else I'd have no memory of what happened! As noted in a previous post, we traditionally have a Sesame Street theme for the 2nd birthday. Matthew's Cookie Monster cake was one of my favorites!
He was so proud and excited to have everyone singing to him. He found a new buddy, his Great Uncle David. Matthew has been battling a cold for a couple of weeks, which has led to some extra drooling. Since this is probably his first experience with blowing out the candles, it proved to be a bit challenging for him. From the look on my face, I'm betting you can guess what happened....
Don't all two year olds have a little extra goodness they like to add to their cakes?? Thankfully, his landed on the plate and not the cake. We did take care to not serve that side of the cake to our guests!! Way to go, Allison, for capturing such a great photo of me!!
Can you see the two sweeties behind the ginormous bags??

Matthew received some pretty fun stuff: books, videos, clothes and of course, the traditional gift from the grandparents -- a wooden child-size rocking chair. Who knew when they started this gift 11 years ago with the first grandchild that they would have to scour antique stores and garage sales for 5 more of them!!
We had Matthew and Jonathan open their gifts from us on the same night as the older 3 kids and I would be at church on his actual birthday. Matthew has recently discovered pockets. So cute!
He is still getting the hang of opening presents, but has lots of help from his older siblings! He was pretty excited about his new Barnyard Bowling set. Truth be told, all the kids were excited about it!!
Matthew is proving to be trying to give Elizabeth a run for her money for the most comedic in our family. He took his annual rocking chair birthday pictures to a whole new level!!
Monster cheesy grin!!
Seriously?? Who's the star??
And Little Miss E just couldn't be left out! She is still madly in love with her baby brother -- and her older brother, too. There is definitely a lot of love between Elizabeth and her brothers!! I think she really misses having Matthew as a roommate, but a new bond is also developing between she and Caroline.
