The past 3 Friday nights, I've been gone due to various events at church and a trip to Ohio. We've made them up by having them on Saturday nights, but it's not the same since we normally have to get baths in on Saturday nights as well. We were all looking forward to tonight's planned evening.
David had a great idea to go to Long John Silver's dressed in pirate attire. Being as I'd never been to a LJS before, I wasn't sure what to expect. It's not that I don't like fish, I just don't like greasy fish. Whew - was this stuff greasy! David said while we were eating that he didn't want to know how many calories we were consuming. I couldn't even finish all of mine and had to bring it home for another day of gluttney!
David has a collection of pirate attire, but the kids and I had to scrounge around for a few accessories. Here were our final outfits:
After we came home, we continued on with our pirate theme and watched the Muppets Treasure Island movie. David and I both grew up watching the Muppet show and have borrowed the DVD's from the library to show the kids. It's not nearly as great as we'd remembered it (at least seasons 1 & 2, we've currently got season 3 but haven't watched it yet), but we still wanted to show some of our childhood to them.
We realize that we need to do these crazy types of activites with the kids while they are young... so that when they are teenages, they will still want to do them with us - or at least may not protest! I don't remember ever doing anything like this with my family growing up, nor can I imagine any of my siblings partaking in this type of activity today. So, if any of you are reading this (and even if you are not one of my siblings) -- head on out to your nearest Long John Silver's in your pirate attire. It's good for a laugh, even if it's not so good for your body!

I promise you that I, "thou eldest bro" DO NOT eat LJS for any reason!!
ReplyDelete(Oops, previous post got interrupted) However, the concept of family togetherness is perfect. And, um,
ReplyDeleteyour crew appears to be, ahh, "missing" one pirate!
