I came up with a great idea last year. To make a "game" out of picking up all the gum balls in our backyard from our sweet gum tree. These little gems are not fun when running around in the backyard and they become missiles out of the lawnmower! Caroline has been itching to get outside to start collecting them. Tonight, it was finally warm and dry enough for them to go out after she got her homework done. In no time, she filled her bucket...and it was only from about half of the deck! Her incentive is what motivates her. We count them and then they are rewarded -- with candy! Considering how candy is near and dear to Caroline's heart, she'll probably clean up the entire yard!
