Car Seat Safety

Most things these days have expiration dates on them....food, medicine, etc. but did you know that car seats expire too? I didn't know this until we were pregnant with our fourth kiddo, but fortunately, they have a 6 year life expectancy (the car seat -- not the kid!)

Thankfully, we've had our kids close enough in age and they grow quick enough that Matthew should be out of the infant seat by the time it expires in April. But if not, I wonder what happens if you are using an expired car seat?? Let's not try to find out...although, somedays a few hours in a jail cell seem mighty appealing!

Anyway, today, Elizabeth decided that Matthew is not safe in his car seat by himself. From the looks of it, they do appear quite cozy...

I think it would be handy to have her in a seat with him because it sure is hard to find a pacifier to calm him while driving when he is positioned backward behind me. Elizabeth is always mighty happy to help with a 'bop-bop' (that's pacifer in Elizabeth terms). See how she is checking on him?!? Notice he seems to have that look in his eyes of "rescue me!"

We checked to see if I could still get the handle up, but I didn't attempt to lift them up. Seriously, do you think I'm that crazy? Close. And please, no comments necessary!
It's also very important to make sure that you can check for toe jam while you are in your car seat, as Elizabeth is demonstrating. Not sure what the deal is, but she is very interested in toe jam these days. I find it funny that both girls are like me and prefer to be barefoot most of the time.
Elizabeth finally tired of having a co-pilot in the carseat. I rescued Matthew from her grip knowing that it was nearing her naptime and his feeding time. She decided that she was just going to hang out for a while in the car seat. Perhaps she was having fond memories from her infant days....
