So, today, Elizabeth wakes up coughing and hacking and still running a fever. I decided to take her in to the doctor. The first thing the pediatrician says is, "wow, you must have a sick kid, because you never come in except for well visits!" I would have to say that we have exceptionally healthy kids. I expected that we'd have more sickness this year due to Caroline going to school, but really, it's not been too bad.
As we were sitting waiting, we got to visit with a mom who used to come to MOPS. Her son had the same barky cough, as did most of the other children who were also in the waiting room. It was finally our turn to go back. Elizabeth was sporting the gangster look as she has become quite fond of the hood on her sweatshirt and refuses to take it off. By looking at her, I was doubting my decision to bring her in...this was looking like it was going to be an expensive visit -- for nothing.
So, the doctor comes in and checks Elizabeth out and says, "she has pnemonia." My eyeballs about popped out of my head! That was not the diagnosis I was expecting!! I asked her if I needed to get the boys checked out as they were exhibiting some of the same barky cough. Thankfully, she listened to their lungs (free of charge!) and said they were fine. We got a prescription for Amoxicillian (again, free from Meijer!) and she's on the mend.
Isn't it crazy that I don't even like to pay full price for healthcare?!?

EXACT same thing happened to me when Anna was 2. I thought it was no big deal and then about fainted when she told me it was pneumonia in her left lung.
